SINGLE-STAGE ENHANCEMENT

This package is designed to address vehicles with minor clear coat scratches and swirl marks. A single-stage enhancement polish is used to rejuvenate the finish which is then locked in with a 1-year ceramic coating.

TWO-STAGE CORRECTION

From £600

For vehicles with heavier clear coat defects, a two-stage machine polish is used to cut deeper imperfections and then refine the finish. The paintwork is then protected using a 1-year ceramic coating.

With both the single-stage and two-stage polishing packages, the following steps are performed. The only difference between the process is that an additional polishing stage is performed in the two-stage machine polishing package.

Machine polishing, also known as paint correction, is the process of removing a thin layer of clear coat to eliminate scratches and swirl marks. This process causes the paintwork to look shinier and enhances depth of gloss.

I know just how important it is to you that your vehicle is treated with the highest level of care. Step 1. Exterior Wash

The car is firstly washed using safe-techniques and premium shampoos and microfiber wash mitts. This includes a thorough clean of the entire wheel surface (arches, alloy barrels/ faces and tyres), a two-stage pre-wash and hand-wash.

Step 2. Decontamination

To remove embedded contamination and leave the paintwork completely smooth, the car is chemically decontaminated using iron remover, tar remover, and mineral deposit remover sprays. It then receives a clay bar treatment to remove any remaining bonded contaminants.

Step 3. Paint Depth Inspection

To check the thickness of the paint before machine polishing, a Paint Depth Gauge is used. A full report of the readings will also be provided to the owner to show the thickness before and after machine polishing.

Step 4. Paint Condition Inspection

An inspection light is then used to assess the paint defects and find a suitable pad and polish combination to improve gloss and remove swirl marks without being overly aggressive.

Step 5. Machine Polishing

The paintwork is then machine polished to remove the defects and enhance the gloss. You have the choice of either a single-stage enhancement, or two-stage correction. I can advise on the best option for your vehicle.

Step 2. Protection

Both paint correction packages include a 1-year ceramic coating application as standard. You also have the choice to upgrade to a 3-year or 7-year coating, and have protection applied to the alloy faces, glass, trim and exhaust.

Step 7. Tyre Condition

To not only complete the freshly detailed look, but also to protect the rubber, a tyre conditioner is applied. This is not your typical shiny tyre gel, but a unique formulation which hydrates the rubber to keep it in excellent condition.

What is machine polishing?

Are there different types of paint correction?

There are three main types of paint correction processes:

1. Polishing: uses very fine abrasives to remove minor swirls and scratches and enhance gloss
2. Compounding: uses moderate abrasives to remove deeper defects
3. Wet-sanding: uses heavy abrasion to address very deep clear coat scratches

These different processes can be used in combination with each other to deal with different levels of defects and address various levels of clear coat hardness. For example, a single-stage machine polish may be appropriate on one vehicle. Whereas on another car, a multi-stage process involving wet-sanding, compounding and finally polishing may be necessary to achieve the desired finish.

What is the difference between polishing and waxing?

Polishing and waxing are very different processes but two which are often confused. The reason being that some consumer-level car cleaning brands often use the terms interchangeably, but they are in fact completely different.

Polishing is the process of removing a thin layer of paint to remove clear coat scratches and swirls. Waxing on the other hand is the process of adding a layer of protection to the paintwork.

The main differences between the two processes being:
– Polishes are abrasive and not protective
– Waxes are not abrasive but are protective

What types of scratches does machine polishing remove?

Machine polishing is designed to deal with scratches in the clear coat layer of paintwork. It is not capable of removing scratches which are white or grey in colour, indicating that they have gone completely through the clear coat layer of paint.

These clear coat scratches cause the paintwork to look dull and are very visible in direct sunlight, often taking on the appearance of spiderwebs. These types of scratches are generally caused by improper wash technique. For example, by using sponges and brushes to clean the paintwork instead of microfiber.

What is the difference between polishing by hand and by machine?

Hand polishing and machine polishing both do the same thing, in that they cut away a layer of clear coat paint to remove defects and enhance gloss. However there are several differences between the two techniques:

– Machine polishing is much faster and more efficient than hand-polishing which is very labour intensive and slow
– Machine polishing often achieves a more consistent finish and better defect removal than hand polishing-
– The risk of removing too much paint is greater with machine polishing
– Hand-polishing requires less equipment than machine polishing

How is a car prepared for machine polishing?

The preparation process required before machine polishing a vehicle is intensive and requires the following steps:

– Thorough pre-wash of the vehicle using citrus sprays or snow foam
– Safe hand-wash of the exterior using a microfiber mitt and car shampoo
– Removal of iron and tar deposits using dedicated chemicals
– Clay barring the paintwork to remove any remaining contaminants
– Drying the paintwork using a microfiber towel or compressed air
– Using a panel wipe solution to remove any remaining residue
– Taping plastic and rubber trim surrounding the paintwork
